Last Thursday Richard Beeland, the Media Relations Director for the mayor, and Janis Hashe, a writer and PR specialist, came and spoke to our class. The discussion was very informative on how to write press releases and the professional practices you should follow when dealing with the media. Mr. Beeland stressed the importance of keeping the press release very simple in order to get your point across as clearly as possible. The idea of a “press pack” was something that I had not previously considered for our Take Root project and ties together the press release and design elements. Overall, the visit was very helpful for our current project and also provided good knowledge to have for the future.
